Maidens battle into consolation championship

KALISPELL — The basketball season came to an end for the Ronan Maidens, but not without an important victory. Nobody was surprised that the Maidens weren’t in the Northwestern A Divisional title game on Saturday night. But that didn’t take anything away from the joy they felt earning a spot in the consolation championship. There was a small, but very important victory — just their second one this season — for Ronan on Saturday morning that may have made the season worthwhile. It certainly provided a glimmer of hope for a squad that has endured a lot of disappointment.  Ronan opened the tournament Thursday afternoon against Whitefish. Both teams looke...

Rising to the challenge

With the euphoria of their semifinal victory over White Sulphur Springs, seemingly farther than 100 miles away and more removed than three days, a young, short-handed Lady Viking crew pulled together and proved to the favored Lady Trojan team that they were up for the challenge. Determination and good def...

Vikings end decade-long drought at divisionals

BUTTE — The Charlo Vikings let any chance of playing at the state tournament slip through their fingers, committing 34 turnovers in a 54-35 season-ending loss to Twin Bridges. But attaining a hard-sought after goal and picking up the first Viking victory at the Western C Divisionals in more than a deca...

Gliding to state

KALISPELL — Just one bucket short, just one stop away, just a couple of free throws from getting over the hump, the Polson Lady Pirates came oh-so-close to a divisional championship last Saturday night. Polson had the Wildkats right where they wanted them, with both posts fouled out of the game and ...

Grappling with giants

It was a nice little run while it lasted, the kind that can carry over into next year. But the Ronan boys' fun run ran out of momentum on Monday. With nothing to lose and nobody expecting them to do much, the Ronan Chiefs put together an impressive string of basketball games at last weekend’s Northw...

Sweet revenge

The story for the Warriors at the Western C Divisional Tournament was the same as last year, but this year they made sure to rewrite the ending — an ending that is still unfinished. At the Maroon Activities Center in Butte last week, the Warriors followed an identical path from last year to a challe...

Bounce back

KALISPELL — They had to work hard at it — and it took a little longer than normal — but the Polson Pirates did punch their ticket to this weekend's Class A state basketball tournament.  The Pirates vaulted into Saturday's Northwestern A Divisional championship game at Glacier High i...

Maidens end regular season with loss to Lady Pirates

POLSON — The Maidens were able to score against the Lady Pirates, but couldn’t stop their fast and athletic attack in a 50-32 loss in Polson Saturday night.  The 32 points Saturday, was the Maidens’ highest offensive output since a 42-36 loss to the Lady Bulldogs in Whitefish Jan. 2...

Lady Eagles end season with straight losses at districts

RONAN — The Lady Eagles couldn’t string four good quarters together at the District 14-C Tournament and were eliminated after two games. Two River Eagle started the tournament with a 69-38 loss to Noxon Friday and ended the tournament with a 54-36 loss to Arlee Saturday. “If we could ...

Scarlets finish 4th at District 14-C tourney

RONAN — The Scarlets were able to pick up a couple of wins at the District 14-C tournament before bowing out with a 45-29 season-ending loss to Noxon in the consolation game. The district tournament at the Ronan Event Center, was a microcosm of the regular season, where the young Scarlet squad, whic...
