Editor,

I don’t read the Lake County Leader newspaper and haven’t done so for years. The following is a great example of why. A friend of mine showed me a copy of the Lake County Fair section published by them a few weeks ago. What I saw was hard to believe. They somehow managed to highlight Lake County, Indiana. There were two different maps showing where you could park at Crown Point High School and be shuttled down to the fair. A “welcome to the Lake County Fair” piece states, “way back in 1852,” yada-yada. Come on, really? We weren’t even a county for another 60 years. And then of course there’s the six pages or so of fair schedules that are all about Lake County Indiana. How can this even happen?

How is it that a so-called local newspaper could get that much information wrong and not notice it? On top of all this, they acted as if it had never happened. No correction, no editorial, no nothing. Just ignore it and hope no one notices.

If I were a subscriber of that paper or an advertiser, I sure wouldn’t be after this. Talk about no credibility. If you want to see a copy, it’s up on their website (for now) under “special sections.”

I’m so glad we have the Valley Journal. They may not be perfect, but at least they’re responsible, and you can count on them.
