Editor,

As a veteran who learned to “hurry up and wait” I am afraid my patience with the US Postal service in a simple chore has run out. It has been at least four months since a US flag has flown over the Dixon Post Office.

When I first asked the clerk in charge she told me that the rope had broken. That clerk was then sent off to another area post office and a new temporary filled in.  After several months I again inquired and was shown a bundle of rope and flag. Nothing had been done, so I called the Post Mistress in Arlee responsible for the Dixon Post Office. She was very “concerned” and several weeks later (Oct.14), since there was still no flag, I asked one of the Mission Valley Power trucks pruning trees in the area if they would put the rope up if I went and got one. They agreed, I bought rope and the Arlee Post Mistress informed me that they/we could not touch the Dixon flagpole, etc.   The repairman would get a truck and helper in Missoula, and so forth. Besides, “a clip was broken.”

It seems when a simple solution is available, I and other veterans in Dixon wonder why we still don’t have a US flag flying over our post office?
