Editor,

The Cowboy Ball at the Polson Fairgrounds on Friday is a great fundraising event for a great cause to raise money for the fairgrounds — but the PA system and the band was ear damaging loud. Even when I shouted directly into my partner’s ear, she could not understand me most of the time. We could hardly communicate with the other guests at our table. There was a great band playing but some people left because of the high volume and I left a lot earlier than I wanted. It took three days before my ears felt normal again and the overall health of my ears did not benefit. One guest commented that the volume was a lot better for him out near the rest rooms some 50 yards outside the tent. I do not think most people want that much volume and perceived peer pressure makes us endure it. Is it socially acceptable to ask for the volume to be turned down? Is there anyone that agrees with me?
