Editor,

America’s 2016 presidential election seems to be all about “X” or “Y”. X is the female chromosome and Y is the male chromosome. Yet each of us is made up of both. The rest of the world seems to have figured this out and accepted it years and years ago. There have been women in positions of leading nations all over the world for years. And often in nations we have smugly looked down upon. What is our problem?

Our sitting “balanced chromosome” president is genuinely concerned about the health of the Republican Party. He points out that our nation's present and future health depends upon a healthy two-party system. He also points out that the Republican party is destroying itself by having tried to destroy his presidency for almost eight years now. The “unbalanced chromosome” Republican nominee for president presents obvious and serious concerns that are making headlines day after day in both parties.

The GOP obstructionist tactics, which brought forth the leader they have today, has caught the attention and concern around the world. America, right now, is standing at the cliff's edge looking both down at destruction and up at reconstruction. Which will we choose? Is our nation up to the challenge of starting a huge repair job? Or are we so embedded in some brand of party loyalty that we cannot see the forest for the trees?

Chromosomes are an interesting topic, but it takes more than X and Y to be a good leader. It takes wisdom, courage, intelligence and important people skills. “Madam X” fills the bill.

It is time for the Mitch McConnells of the world to retire and be content with writing letters to the editor. I know that works.
