Editor,

Wow. What a great community we live in. Friday night at the Marmon Family Benefit, Willard and I saw how people can come together and make a difference. We had support from so many folks that it would take a whole page to thank them all. So, thank you, everyone, you are all awesome. We made a generous amount of cash to help the entire Marmon family, and had a great time doing it.

The Ronan Volunteer Fire Department, with the support of Valley Bank, Harvest Foods and Lynn’s Drive-in threw a fantastic barbecue while being entertained by K.C. and the Valley Cats.

More than 200 white elephant gifts rolled in, were wrapped up and sold — from pies to propane, we had just about anything you can think of. Some of the items were so nice we ended up with an unintended silent auction. The mass unwrapping of the white elephant gifts proved to be quite amusing. The donated keg of beer ran out about the same time as the food, and then the party turned up a notch with the band “Drunk and Disorderly” at the helm.

We had so much volunteer help to make this possible it was incredible. Thank you.

This was a family friendly event that was well-attended. We were very excited that Elias could attend the event. We celebrated his life and his birthday. People were not shy about their feelings and support for Dave, Cathy, Elias and the rest of their family. They are a wonderful family, and would not hesitate to help anyone with anything; however, they were a little embarrassed when we asked if we could throw a benefit. We’re sure glad they said yes. Happy birthday, Elias.
